The Evolution of Loyalty: Insights from 2024

As loyalty programmes continue to evolve, 2024 was a year of digital transformation and heightened customer expectations. With mobile-first engagement on the rise, digital wallets and loyalty apps became essential tools for seamless transactions and reward redemptions. AI-powered personalisation took a leap forward, allowing brands to craft highly tailored offers that resonate with individual preferences.

Sustainability also played a pivotal role, particularly in the airline and travel sectors, where eco-friendly rewards and carbon offset initiatives gained momentum. Meanwhile, cross-industry partnerships flourished, with loyalty programmes expanding beyond their traditional ecosystems—hotels, airlines, and retailers collaborated to enhance the value of loyalty points across multiple brands.

What’s in Store for Loyalty in 2025?

Looking ahead, AI and machine learning are set to redefine personalisation in loyalty. Brands will leverage advanced data analytics to predict customer needs with greater accuracy, delivering real-time, hyper-personalised rewards. Additionally, gamification is expected to make a major impact, particularly in airline and retail loyalty programmes, attracting younger audiences who prefer interactive and engaging experiences over traditional point-based systems.

Cross-industry collaborations will continue to gain traction, integrating loyalty with retail, entertainment, mobility, and even gaming. Meanwhile, privacy and data security will remain at the forefront, as consumers demand seamless yet trustworthy interactions with loyalty programmes.

The Role of Technology and Budgets in 2025

With rising consumer expectations, loyalty budgets are anticipated to increase moderately, particularly in AI, gamification, and data-driven insights. Brands will need to justify their investments by proving long-term engagement and profitability. In addition, sustainability efforts are expected to expand, with more companies integrating green rewards and ethical loyalty practices.
