Today, on the last supermoon of 2024 on 15 November, new research commissioned by hotel brand Holiday Inn Express reveals nearly a third (29%) of Brits say the moon’s phases affect their sleep quality. A further 62 percent of Brits also say a poor night’s sleep leaves them feeling low in mood and energy.

With over half (53%) of Brits already turning to the soothing, repetitive sounds of ASMR to help them unwind – musician and mental wellness advocate Professor Green has partnered with Holiday Inn Express hotels, to create Professor Green’s Restful Rhythms. The calming playlist is now available to stream globally, just in time for 15 November supermoon.

John Wright, Vice President Mainstream Brands, EMEAA, commented: “At Holiday Inn Express hotels we want our guests to have a great overnight recharge whenever they stay. With quality bedding, a choice of firm or soft pillows, blackout blinds, power showers and a hot breakfast – Holiday Inn Express helps guests wake up ready for the day. That’s why this new collaboration with Professor Green and Dr Faye Begeti to launch ASMR playlist ‘Restful Rhythms’ is perfect as it offers another way for guests to get a great night’s sleep.”

Professor Green’s Restful Rhythms has been created in collaboration with neuroscientist and sleep expert Dr. Faye Begeti, MB PhD to scientifically promote a peaceful night’s sleep. The playlist combines ASMR with binaural beats and features five tracks that showcase the everyday sounds of a Holiday Inn Express hotel, such as sizzling bacon, the drip of coffee, the rustle of sheets, and more. Each track, recorded at a Holiday Inn Express hotel, also features soothing spoken word by Professor Green to enhance a restorative night. Tracks include:

  • Grateful: The sounds of the city fade away as the doors of the Holiday Inn Express hotel close behind. The distant hum of voices and quiet footsteps, as well as the gentle click of a keycard, reminisce on the serenity of the day.
Back Where It All Began: The sounds of crackling bacon, an electric toothbrush, and fresh coffee remind us of a soothing morning scene.
All In Good Time: The soft jingle of cutlery, the gentle rolls of a suitcase over the carpet and the dull murmur of the microwave take us back to sweet midday moments.
Weaving Dreams: The simple sounds of making a cuppa and curtains closing to recall a peaceful early evening.
The Silence Between: The sweet flick of a light switch and faint rumble of distant streets, the gentle whir of an air conditioner, and the guiding beats of Professor Green’s breathing set the stage for late night hours, and a deep sleep.

“As a musician and father, I know how challenging it can be to get a good night’s sleep and how much it affects the following day,” said Stephen Manderson (Professor Green). “Especially when I’m on tour, music and a comfortable hotel bed are essential so I can relax and unwind at night. That’s why I couldn’t be more excited to create this playlist and bring it to people nationwide, helping them to get a better sleep this supermoon and beyond.”

The survey also found it takes 39 percent of Brits anywhere from 31 minutes to 2 hours to wind down before bed – with 88 percent of people using electronic devices within one hour or less before bedtime.

“Sleep is crucial for our mental and physical well-being,” said Dr Faye Begeti, MB PhD. “This new soundtrack by Professor Green and Holiday Inn Express hotels takes familiar sounds and turns them into ASMR auditory stimuli. Research shows that ASMR activates regions in the brain linked to relaxation and pleasure, helping to lower heart rate and ease the body into a restful state. Binaural beats have been added which gently guide the brain into specific relaxation states, promoting calm and reducing anxiety.

Blending these techniques, and their brain-friendly benefits, has the potential to provide a powerful relaxation tool. When used consistently as part of an evening routine, this new soundtrack can help the brain unwind, improving sleep quality and duration. Developing familiarity with these sounds at home can be especially valuable while traveling as it will reinforce comfort and relaxation, supporting restful sleep wherever you are.”
