The recent changes, which took effect from June 14, meant that customers can now only claim 2 times the value of their vouchers (not 3 times) at certain places such as Virgin Atlantic, Disney+, Legoland, and Cafe Rouge.

Tesco customers are expressing anger and frustration at the supermarket giant for implementing new Clubcard rules that have left them significantly out of pocket. Previously, customers were able to exchange their Tesco vouchers for up to three times their value at over 100 High Street brands known as ‘Reward Partners.’ This scheme, known as the Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner scheme, allowed customers to earn points that could be used for discounted prices, meals, travel, and days out. For every £1 spent in-store or online, shoppers earned one point.

However, the recent changes, which took effect from June 14, meant that customers can now only claim two times the value of their vouchers at certain places such as Virgin Atlantic, Disney+, Legoland, and Cafe Rouge. Due to the influx of people attempting to claim their rewards, Tesco had to extend the deadline for using the voucher points as their systems crashed.

Tesco customers have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment, stating that they have missed out on rewards vouchers. Some have reported losing significant amounts of money, with one customer mentioning missing out on £165 worth of vouchers, enough to cover a family trip to Thorpe Park. Shoppers are demanding that the supermarket honor their points at the original value and expressing frustration at the voucher system not working properly.

Customers can redeem their points online, and Reward Partner codes are sent via email from Tesco Clubcard. If exchanged through the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app, the codes will also appear in the ‘Rewards’ section.

Tesco has confirmed that customers who received a confirmation email before the deadline of 11:59 pm on June 15 will receive vouchers worth three times their value. Vouchers ordered before the deadline will be valid for one year at the current rate instead of the usual six months, except for Disney+ vouchers, which must be redeemed before August 10, and for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members, whose scheme will change on July 21.

Martin Lewis, a well-known financial expert, has advised Tesco customers on how to extend their points for a longer duration. By making a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards website, customers can get the remaining points credited back to their account, allowing the rest of the voucher’s value to be reissued and last another two years.

In addition to these changes, Tesco has moved its points system from the ‘Clubcard’ app to a new ‘Grocery and Clubcard’ app. The supermarket has made several adjustments to its loyalty scheme throughout the year, including modifications to its meal deals, transitioning to paperless coupons and personalized vouchers, and introducing warnings for customers whose points are close to expiring.
