Air New Zealand is searching for the best Kiwi snacks to upgrade its onboard trolley offering for both domestic and international services. The airline has launched The Great Kiwi Snack Off, a nationwide search for only New Zealand-made snacks that can surprise and delight even the most discerning traveler. The snacks must be made in New Zealand with ingredients sourced from the country, and should cater to different dietary needs and time-of-day appetites. Submissions will be judged based on taste, packaging sustainability, and their representation of the history and provenance of NZ, Māori, and Pasifika or social enterprises. The candy handed out on descent and the popular Koru hour will still be offered alongside the new snacks. The airline is encouraging both bespoke and small suppliers to apply and the new range of snacks is expected to be chosen by the end of 2023.

Air New Zealand will will also introduce a new product called Sky-Nest, which is a standalone structure with six pods that have fully flat bunks designed to provide a genuine bed product for the economy cabin. Passengers will be able to purchase the Sky-Nest experience as an add-on to an economy seat ticket, with each bed being available for a four-hour block rather than the whole flight. The Sky-Nest is expected to debut next year on Air New Zealand’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. In addition to the Sky-Nest, the new planes will feature newly designed premium economy seats with more privacy and space, as well as several Business Premiere seats and Premiere Luxe fully enclosed suites. The airline’s new snacks will also be introduced, and passengers have much to look forward to in 2024.
