Sainsbury’s loyalty programme, Nectar card, is undergoing a major overhaul which will allow customers to receive discounts on 300 products. This move is similar to Tesco’s Clubcard offers. Simon Roberts, the CEO of Sainsbury’s, has stated that this is just the beginning of their efforts to encourage customers to shop at Sainsbury’s during the cost of living crisis. Sainsbury’s has invested £550m over the past year which has enabled them to raise prices at a slower rate than their competitors. Customers can access the exclusive prices on over 300 products in-store or online using the Nectar app or card at checkout. There are discounts available on a range of products including ice-cream, beer, washing powder, and tea. For example, Nectar cardholders can purchase a tin of Heinz beans for 95p instead of the usual £1.40. There are also offers on shampoo, beer, wine, and gin. The price of Ariel All-in-1 washing liquid capsules (39 washes) has been reduced from £10 to £5, and a multipack of 24 cans of Coke Zero has also been reduced from £10 to £5.
